# MCP servers

MoneyTrees runs three MCP servers over Streamable HTTP (protocol 2025-06-18). Both are listed in [/.well-known/mcp.json](https://moneytrees.ai/.well-known/mcp.json) with a server card each.

## Docs server

`initialize` and `tools/list` work without a token, so a client can see the tools first. `tools/call` without a token returns HTTP 401 with a `WWW-Authenticate` header that points at the protected-resource metadata.

Reads: watchlists, open positions, portfolio summary, alerts, movers, ticker lookup and search, recent signals.

Writes: add or remove watchlist items, create alerts, place and close paper trades, and request live trades. A live trade request never executes from MCP. It is queued as a pending trade that the user approves in the app, and it needs live trading access on the account.

## Interactive views

Tools that return market data or trades also return `structuredContent` and point at a `ui://moneytrees/...` resource (MCP Apps, `text/html;profile=mcp-app`). Hosts that render MCP Apps, such as ChatGPT and Claude, show a card in the conversation. Other hosts get the same data as text.
